The Haunting of Hill House TV series

The Haunting of Hill House received critical acclaim, particularly for its acting, directing, and production values. A follow-up series by Flanagan titled The Haunting of Bly Manor, with most of the same crew and some of the same cast but a different story and characters, was released on October 9, 2020. In contrast to the upcoming second season outing’s Henry James-inspired content, 2018’s inaugural anthology outing, The Haunting of Hill House, was a VERY loose adaptation of Shirley Jackson’s classic horror novel of the same name. That season of the show followed the Crain family and their experiences at the titular Hill House and how the trauma of living with ghosts (literal and figurative,) affects their lives as adults. The show will reinvent itself next year as it tackles another haunted house classic, the Henry James novella The Turn of the Screw. He couldn’t say much of anything, but did say next season will continue Flanagan’s tradition of marrying horror and heart.

He rents Hill House for a summer and invites as his guests several people whom he has chosen because of their experiences with paranormal events. Eleanor travels to the house, where she and Theodora will live in isolation with Montague and Luke. The Haunting of Hill House is a 1959 gothic horror novel by American author Shirley Jackson. It was a finalist for the National Book Award and has been made into two feature films and a play, and is the basis of a Netflix series. This is Paxton Singleton's first big role, and he certainly shows promise as big brother Steven.

In the series, Olivia–a talented architect–also experiences aural migraines, which was actually Gugino’s idea. Later in their stay, the doctor's wife, the haughty Mrs. Montague, and her companion Arthur Parker, the headmaster of a boys' school, arrive to spend a weekend at Hill House and help investigate it. They, too, are interested in the supernatural, including séances and spirit writing. Unlike the other four characters, they do not experience anything supernatural, although some of Mrs. Montague's alleged spirit writings seem to communicate with Eleanor.

Production Company

The show has been monstrously well received from the critical community and if the reaction to our coverage is any indication, it’s been well received from fans as well. Almost a decade ago, I first worked with CATHERINE PARKER on a tiny movie called ABSENTIA. Last season, she was unforgettable as Poppy Hill… today, I’m thrilled to announce that she’s joining us at Bly Manor. Catherine Parker will be coming to Bly Manor, Mike Flanagan announced via Twitter.

The setting of Bly Manor could give a clue about the next season, too.

In Hush, Flanagan's 2016 movie, a masked killer stalks author Maddie Young (Kate Siegel) in her remote home. The book also shows up in the Netflix movie Gerald's Game, which Flanagan directed. Looks like Netflix is becoming the new site of the Mike Flanagan horror universe, and we can't wait to be scared. Production on Flanagan's next Netflix horror series, Midnight Mass, began in August. Midnight Mass will feature two Haunting regulars–Henry Thomas and Kate Siegel, who happens to be Flanagan's wife. While Bly Manor and Hill House both feature ghosts (lots of 'em, in fact), the shows are as concerned with exploring what ghosts represent as creating jump scares.

The Haunting of Hill House: The Older and Younger Versions of the Characters, Side by Side

Before Violet McGraw was running from her own fate in "Hill House," she was appearing in another Netflix Original, "Love." She also has an uncredited role in the film "Ready Player One" and will appear in the upcoming film "Motocross." The actor, who has been seen in season five of "How to Get Away with Murder," has also appeared in "American Crime," "Leverage," "Kidnapped," "The Good Shepherd," "French Kiss," "The Killing Room," "The Alphabet Killer," and much more. “You’d be in the makeup truck in the morning and there’d be someone sitting in the chair being done up as a ghost, and you’d be like, ‘Who’s that? '” He also pointed out that in the opening moments of the pilot, Shirley mentions the Red Room; the show dangles some of its headiest mysteries before the audience before they even know what they are. The house's two caretakers, Mr. and Mrs. Dudley, refuse to stay near the house at night.

He's cute, curious, and has a big heart, which is evident in how quickly he welcomes a new friendship with the mysterious Abigail. Costume Designer Kelli Dunsmore told Tudum that she wanted Cat King to have a concurrent femininity and masculinity about him. “It doesn’t matter what gender, everyone’s in love with the Cat King,” she said. Crystal Palace, a psychic medium, was rescued from demonic possession by Edwin and Charles. She joined the Dead Boy Detectives to save lives and discover her identity.

Ruth Connell previously played Night Nurse on Doom Patrol, which marked the live-action debut of the Dead Boy Detectives. The character is played by Scottish actress Ruth Connell, who has appeared in Supernatural and its spinoff The Winchesters. Haunting Crystal is her disturbed ex-boyfriend, David, a demon who can possess people to do horrible things.

Victoria Pedretti played Eleanor "Nell" Crain.

Additionally, though, he's appeared in a "Three Musketeers" short and has had a role in the series "The Rookie." You can also catch him in the upcoming movies "Alice Fades Away" and "Breed." On February 21, 2019, Netflix renewed the series for a second season as an anthology series, titled The Haunting of Bly Manor, and based on The Turn of the Screw by Henry James. In October 2018, Mike Flanagan said that a possible second season would not continue the story of the Crain family, specifying, "it's done." Hill House is a mansion in a location never specified, surrounded by hills. Dr. John Montague, an investigator of the supernatural, Eleanor Vance, a shy young woman who resents caring for her demanding, disabled mother,[5] Theodora, a bohemian artist, and Luke Sanderson, the young heir to Hill House, meet there at Montague's behest. Montague hopes to find scientific evidence of the existence of the supernatural.

Prior to joining this series, Timothy Hutton played Nathan in Leverage and appeared in films like Secret Window and The Good Shepherd. As an older, wiser, and much more regretful Hugh, he brings a crushing amount of sadness to the role. Set in the same universe as DC Comics’ The Sandman, the series follows the ghosts of Charles and Edwin, two boys who suffered terrible deaths at a British boarding school 70 years apart.

Twenty-six years later, the Crain siblings and their estranged father reunite after another tragedy strikes them, and they are forced to confront how their time in Hill House has affected each of them. Crystal’s neighbor, Niko Sasaki, is a new character who isn’t in the comics. Following her father’s death, she left Japan and moved to Port Townsend, Washington, for high school.
